Where’s The Day Care? Parents Upset Over Eviction Notice

More than 100 families with children are struggling to find alternative facilities after a popular day care center in Ajax, a suburb of Toronto, has suddenly closed.

Happy Kids Daycare, located near Church Street/Delani Drive, has been popular since 2017, providing good care services for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years.

Director Julie Gilchrist said, “The lease contract has recently expired, and I received a notice of eviction from the landlord on the 31st due to delayed rent during the pandemic.”

The problem is that it is realistically difficult for parents to find new day care when the new semester starts in September. According to parents, many other daycare centers are already full and will not be available until next year.

The rent in arrears is about $40,000. The building owner rejected the repayment plan of the ledger.

The director said that there were no major problems as the $40,000 continued to flow in and the monthly rent was paid well. In addition, about 100 parents are also complaining about the difficulty of finding new day care for a short period of a full month.
