International Students with Expired Work Visas Will be Rescued

The federal government is taking special measures one after another for foreign students who are at a disadvantage due to the prolonged corona virus.

The Ministry of Immigration and Immigration said that from September 20 last year to the end of this year, an individual e-mail notification will be sent from the 3rd onwards that international students whose work visa PGWP has expired or is about to expire after graduation can continue to work and stay in Canada.

The PGWP is essential for obtaining permanent residency after graduating from university in Canada by gaining local experience.

The validity period of this visa varies depending on the period of study at the university. Usually, if you have completed a course of 8 months to 1 year, you receive a visa with a validity period like the period you studied, and if you study for 2 years or more, up to 3 years get a visa

Since the PGWP is issued only once in a lifetime, it is fundamentally impossible to extend or re-apply, but the federal government has taken special measures as immigration services are paralyzed and the number of unemployed people is increasing due to the unprecedented corona crisis.

In this regard, an official from the Toronto Hanmaeum Immigration Corporation said, “The newly extended work visa is valid for up to 18 months. ” Explained.

He added, “Many international students who have felt insecure about their status will be relieved by this measure.”

Last year, the federal government gave international students an opportunity to extend the PGWP whose PGWP had expired or was about to expire, and the same measures were implemented this year as well.

An official from Hanmaeum Immigration Corporation advised, “The extension period for a work visa may be shorter than 18 months depending on the expiration date of the passport.”
