Inmate in critical condition after assault in prison

It was revealed on May 21 that Robert Picton, the man accused of mass murder in British Columbia (BC), was assaulted in a Quebec prison and is in critical condition. The incident occurred on May 19th.

Picton, who is serving his sentence at the maximum-security Port Cartier prison, said he was subjected to “severe violence” by other inmates. Quebec provincial police, which is investigating the incident, said Picton was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery.

The assailant was placed in isolation. The prison is located about 850 kilometers northeast of Montreal, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC). prison officials were not involved in the incident, and they placed the highest priority on safety and crime prevention within the prison.
