A horrific traffic accident occurred on September 23 on the Burnaby section of Highway 1. A large truck entered the wrong lane and collided with an Uber ride-hailing car. Unfortunately, two passengers on the bus died, and the driver was seriously injured. According to English-language media CTV, one of the victims was Amy Wang (Hsuan Ming Wang), a Chinese woman living in Surrey, and another passenger who died was her friend. Amy loved spending time with children, worked as a nanny, and was currently receiving early childhood education training. On the morning of the incident, the RCMP personally came to her home to inform her mother of the tragic news. This sad news shocked the entire family. Amy’s brother, William Wang, lives in Saskatchewan.
He drove his two children home, and as soon as he entered his driveway, he received a call from his mother. The two children got out of the car and played happily, while he sat on the garage floor, enduring this sudden sadness alone, unable to let go for a long time. It wasn’t until his wife came home that he broke down in tears. Amy’s father, Daniel Wang, learned of the news when he called home on the day of the incident. In an interview with English-language media, he said he couldn’t accept it at the time and asked his wife not to continue talking. After the incident, Daniel dreamed of his daughter, who told him not to grieve, that he had rested and was with Christ.
The accident is still under investigation, and the driver has so far only been suspended from driving for 90 days. Police are investigating whether he was in a state of intoxication caused by alcohol at the time; if confirmed, he will face even harsher punishment. Amy’s brother William said that if the driver was indeed drunk, he must have been drinking quite a bit. There were several ‘No Entry’ signs on the road where the incident occurred, but he ignored them. Moreover, traffic on the road going against traffic was also considerable, yet he still did not stop until the tragedy occurred.
What hurt William most was that his eldest son was already five years old and still remembered who his aunt was, but the younger son was only two and a half years old, and his aunt was completely blank in his memory. In the future, he will tell the two children many stories about Amy, reminding them that their aunt once loved them very much, was a loving and generous person. To date, the gofundme website, which has raised funds for Amy’s funeral and other related expenses, has raised over 50,000 yuan. Her funeral will be held on Saturday.
