Average annual spending of $4,294 for visits and support
Fans who enjoy sports in Canada appear to prefer visiting the stadium in person rather than watching the game on TV.
According to a survey conducted jointly by Expedia, an online travel and lodging reservation site, Hotels.com, and Vrbo, 42% of respondents said, “I prefer to visit the stadium in person to watch and cheer.” responded.
Additionally, the amount paid annually for this purpose was found to be $4,294 on average per year.
For soccer fans, the average annual spending was $4,700, which was higher than the average, and for ice hockey fans, it was significantly lower than the average at $1,291.
By sport, 47% of respondents said they would go to watch hockey within the next year, followed by 21% for baseball, soccer, and basketball.
Regarding the reason why they prefer to visit the stadium in person, 55% of respondents answered, ‘Because it is fun to cheer on the team with other people.’
47% of respondents answered that visiting the stadium was ‘an opportunity to gather with family, friends, etc.’ and 30% answered ‘because the facilities and additional events in the stadium are fun.’
In this survey, when it comes to questions about reasons, each respondent can choose several things at the same time, so the total can exceed 100%.
